Lauren E. Salisbury published "Just a Tool: Instructors’ Attitudes and Use of Course Management Systems for Online Writing Instruction" in Computers and Composition 48.

May 2018

Alex Rockey presented "Beer Deconstructed: Designing Short Weekly Writing Assignments in a Fully Online Beer and Brewing Course" and "Envisioning a Digital Learning Environment at University of California, Davis: A Space for Pedagogical Discovery and 'Play'" at the Computers and Writing conference in May 2018.

April 2018

Heidi Harris won the College of Social Sciences and Communication Excellence in Teaching Award for 2018 at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Cat Mahaffey and a colleague were charged with developing a training course that melded QM standards with OWI principles. They piloted the course in April with 4 participants with good success. We hope to revise it this fall and offer it again in spring 2019.

Scott Warnock, PhD, GSOLE Vice President, & co-author Diana Gasiewski published the book Writing Together: Ten Weeks Teaching and Studenting in an Online Writing Course with the National Council of Teachers of English (https://secure.ncte.org/store/writing-together).

Collin Bjork won the Lieber Memorial Teaching Associate Award, the highest teaching award for graduate students in any department at Indiana University. He won this award, in part, for helping design the new online first-year writing course at Indiana University and then creating pedagogical materials for future online instructors. You can read more about his specific accomplishments on this webpage.

Cat Mahaffey conducted a webinar for UNC Charlotte's Center for Teaching & Learning titled "Online Literacy: Understanding How Our Students Read Assignments In Canvas" and was selected as a Quality Matters Associate Faculty Fellow at UNC Charlotte. Their mission is to train faculty to teach online and to review new online/blended courses.

Jason Snart became the first Chair of Literature, Creative Writing, and Film at College of DuPage.

Traci Gardner was awarded the 2017 CCCC Technology Innovator Award, on June 2, at the 33rd Computers and Writing Conference, in Findlay, Ohio.

Casey McArdle was awarded the 2017 Kairos Award for Service at the 2017 Computers and Writing Conference in Findlay, Ohio.


April 2017
Lyra Hilliard received the Provost's Excellence Award for Professional Track Faculty. The selection committee noted her outstanding work in blended/ online learning and her dedication to both the Academic Writing Program and the Undergraduate Teaching Assistants in Writing Classes Program.

Scott Warnock, PhD, GSOLE Vice President and Director of the University Writing Program at Drexel University, led a team that won Drexel’s University Award for Pedagogy and Assessment for the project “Measuring Quality, Evaluating Curricular Change: A 7-Year Assessment of Undergraduate Business Student Writing.” This work was also the basis of the article “Measuring Quality, Evaluating Curricular Change: A 7-Year Assessment of Undergraduate Business Student Writing” that Warnock published in the  Journal of Business and Technical Writing (April 2017) with co-authors Nicholas Rouse, Christopher Finnin, Frank Linnehan, & Dylan Dryer.
